Agra has been the undisputed capital of India's leather and footwear industry for over a century. The city's proximity to raw material suppliers, its deep pool of generational craft knowledge, and its established network of artisans, tanneries and ancillary industries make it the only city in India where a workshop like KAIM could exist in the form it does.
The craft traditions of Agra are not written in manuals. They are passed down on the workshop floor — a master craftsman showing an apprentice how much pressure to apply when lasting, how to feel when a sole bond is set correctly, how to judge the quality of a leather hide before it is ever cut. Mr. Suresh Kumar begins handcrafting footwear in a small workshop in Agra, Uttar Pradesh. Working with a handful of skilled artisans, the workshop starts producing men’s leather shoes for local wholesalers.
The team grows to six craftsmen. KAIM adds sandals and slippers to its product range, responding to demand from regional distributors across northern India.
Word-of-mouth referrals bring consistent B2B clients. The workshop begins make-to-sample work, producing custom designs for brand partners for the first time.
KAIM introduces loafers to its catalogue, expanding to four core product lines. Monthly output reaches 1,000 pairs.
Mr. Sushil Kumar formally registers the business and takes charge as CEO & Owner. He brings a modern mindset — better tools, structured processes, proper GST compliance — while making sure the handcraft quality that built KAIM's name doesn't slip an inch.
The team grows steadily. KAIM invests in precision sewing machines, heat presses and compressors — adding modern equipment where it improves consistency, while keeping the handcraft core untouched. The quality stays; the speed and finish get sharper.
KAIM formalises its private-label and OEM manufacturing services. Brands and retailers across India start partnering with KAIM — drawn by the rare combination of handcraft quality and reliable, on-time delivery.
