Inside the KAIM Workshop: From Sample to Scale

One of the most common questions we hear from new partners is: "How does the process work?" Here is a straightforward walkthrough of how we take a sample or design brief and turn it into finished, branded footwear.

Step 1: Sample Review

It starts with your sample. You send us a physical sample, a design brief, reference images or a combination. Our team studies the construction, materials, finish and any specific requirements.

If you do not have a sample, that is fine too. We can develop from a design brief or reference, and we will iterate with you until the product matches your vision.

Step 2: Pattern & Cutting

Our pattern masters create the cutting patterns. Premium materials — leather, synthetic, textiles — are selected and cut by hand. Precision here determines the quality of everything that follows.

Step 3: Stitching & Assembly

This is where the craft shows. Uppers are stitched by hand, components assembled, and the shoe starts taking shape. Our artisans have years of experience with different construction methods.

Step 4: Lasting & Shaping

Each shoe is placed on a last (the foot-shaped form) and shaped. This step determines fit and comfort. We use lasts appropriate to the style and market.

Step 5: Finishing & Quality Check

Final finishing includes polishing, edge treatment, and cleaning. Every pair goes through a quality check before it moves to packaging. We catch issues at the bench, not after dispatch.

Step 6: Packaging & Dispatch

Shoes are packaged to your brand specifications — your boxes, your labels, your branding. We dispatch on schedule, with proper documentation and GST invoicing.

Capacity and Timelines

Our workshop currently produces approximately 2,000 pairs per month across five product lines (shoes, sports shoes, sandals, slippers, loafers). Timelines depend on the order size and complexity, but we are transparent about what we can deliver and when.
